THE VAYL
The Boundary Between Worlds
Public Record
Teaser
A boundary older than memory. A fragile separation between the world of the living and the darkness waiting beyond.
Excerpt
The Veil separates the known world from supernatural forces that have long threatened its existence. Maintained by ancient wards and protected through generations of sacrifice, its stability is essential to the survival of the realms. Yet fractures are spreading, and as the Blood Moon approaches, the boundary grows increasingly uncertain.
Summary
The Veil is an ancient supernatural boundary separating the mortal world from the dangerous forces beyond it, including the Nythrall. Its preservation has shaped the responsibilities of the Veil Guardians and the teachings of the Monastery of Light. Sustained by ancient protective structures, the Veil is neither a kingdom nor a physical wall, but a fundamental division between realms.
Throughout The Moon’s Curse, disturbances within the Veil signal a growing imbalance. Ancient wards weaken, Rift activity increases, and supernatural influences begin reaching places once considered protected. The approaching Blood Moon intensifies these disturbances, raising questions about the boundary’s origins, its enduring purpose, and what might happen should it finally fail.
The Veil remains one of the greatest mysteries within the Codex. Its complete history is preserved only within the deeper archives.
Known As
The Boundary Between Realms; The Ancient Veil; The Supernatural Boundary; The Great Separation
Origin Hint
Its beginnings reach into an age when the separation between realms was established through ancient power, binding, and sacrifice. Whether the surviving accounts preserve the complete truth remains uncertain.
Region Blurb
The Veil extends beyond conventional geographical boundaries, influencing the Northern Realm, Central Dominion, Southern Expanse, Western Verge, and territories beyond. Its presence is most readily recognized near Rift sites, ancient wards, and locations where supernatural disturbances weaken the separation between worlds.
"The Veil does not keep the darkness from existing. It keeps the darkness from entering."

- State
- fractured
- Origin
- The precise creation of the Veil is obscured by antiquity. Surviving traditions associate its preservation with ancient bindings, protective wards, and the actions of early guardians. Although historical records reference the First Sealing and the establishment of protective structures, the complete circumstances surrounding the Veil's original formation remain unresolved.
- Nature
- The Veil is a nonphysical, world-spanning supernatural threshold separating the mortal realm from other planes of existence. It is not inherently aligned with Lux, Shadow, Blood, or Nythrall. Its integrity is maintained through an interconnected system of ancient wards, bindings, and supernatural structures. Although generally invisible, disturbances may manifest as atmospheric distortions, unnatural fluctuations in light, altered perception, or localized fractures.
- Effects
When stable, the Veil restricts supernatural passage and limits direct interaction between realms. As its integrity deteriorates, disturbances may include heightened supernatural resonance, environmental anomalies, increased Rift activity, weakened protective wards, and the intrusion of entities or influences ordinarily separated from the mortal world.
- Dangers
Progressive deterioration threatens the separation between realms. Active fractures may permit hostile supernatural intrusion, expose previously inaccessible pathways, destabilize nearby wards, and increase the influence of Nythrall forces. Blood Moon activity intensifies existing instability, raising concerns that localized breaches could contribute to wider structural failure.
- Access
- The Veil cannot ordinarily be crossed at will. Interaction is associated with active Rift sites, weakened boundaries, ancient rituals, protective artifacts, specialized warding structures, and individuals possessing unusual supernatural resonance. Attempts to manipulate unstable portions of the boundary may produce unpredictable consequences.
- Phenomenon Notes
The Veil should be understood as both a supernatural boundary and an interconnected protective system. Its current Fractured classification reflects progressive structural instability rather than complete collapse. Although its deterioration is observable, the precise mechanisms responsible for its original formation remain incompletely documented. Blood Moon influence substantially intensifies existing weaknesses, with an assigned Blood Moon Intensity of 95/100. The Veil itself remains Unaligned and should not be classified as inherently corrupted or hostile. Its preservation is central to the continued separation of the mortal world from the supernatural realms beyond.

- Veil Alignment Notes
The Veil is the boundary between realms, not an entity inherently aligned with Lux, Shadow, Blood, or Nythrall. It maintains the separation and balance of opposing forces. The Veil is not inherently benevolent or malevolent. It functions as a boundary and protective structure whose stability determines how freely supernatural forces may interact with the mortal realm.
